Mental Health Matters: #SpeakYourMIND

Mental Health Matters: #SpeakYourMIND

The Ice Bucket Challenge is back! We supported the cause back in 2014 for ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis), and we're back for 2025's Ice Bucket Challenge in support of mental health awareness and #SpeakYourMIND. This challenge is one that sits near and dear to our hearts as we serve many of our patients with our mental health services.

What is the #SpeakYourMIND Ice Bucket Challenge?

A University of Southern California club, MIND (Mental Illness Needs Discussion), sparked the #SpeakYourMIND conversation after its president posted an ice bucket challenge video to TikTok to raise money for Active Minds, a national mental health nonprofit supporting youth and young adult mental health. The challenge has now spread nationwide and raised half a million dollars on top of an outrageous amount of support for making mental health a priority.

Are you up for the challenge? Follow these steps:
  1. Grab a bucket, water, ice, and a friend!
  2. Post your video, and tag 3 friends to take the #SpeakYourMind Ice Bucket Challenge!
  3. Tag @active_minds to lead others to donate and learn more about the challenge.
  4. Keep the conversation going! Don’t stop talking about mental health and checking up on your friends, family, and community!
Why it Matters to Us at Lubbock Primary Care

At Lubbock Primary Care, we see firsthand the impact of mental health on overall well-being. From managing daily stress to navigating anxiety and depression, supporting our patients' mental health is a cornerstone of our primary care services. Mental health is just as important as physical health, and initiatives like #SpeakYourMIND are vital in breaking down stigmas and encouraging open conversations.

Beyond the Bucket: Simple Ways to Support Mental Health Every Day
  1. Check in on your people. Make checking in with your loved ones a habit. Encourage open dialogue, creating a space where friends and family feel comfortable sharing their struggles.
  2. Remind yourself and others to prioritize self-care. This could be anything from a walk outdoors to listening to music, reading, journaling, or simply taking a break.
  3. Nourish your brain. Make sleep, nutrition, and hydration a priority. These are simple, but often go overlooked.
  4. Express yourself and find your outlet. Whether it's a hobby, moving your body, or journaling, find your outlet to process your thoughts and emotions.
